roll tide (de yada)
alabama is just awesome. i guess i should start at the beginning so you can understand my elation (although pretty much the only people who will read this already know all about it). the past year i've been in virginia, and it has left me financially broken. i have been in school full-time (and doing well), working full-time, and still somehow managing to go in debt. but this has not been a result of frivolous spending. it has been the result of a ridiculously expensive school that does not provide financial assistance. but, it does have it's own dictator (complete with his own private storm troopers) living right on the premises, with his own private stable. but, i digress. and if i continue down this path, it will be a completely different blog. my financial state (as well as my cohort...also another blog...that one might happen) caused me to seek education elsewhere. so i applied to UA. after i got accepted, my sister helped me look for apartments as well as a job. not only did she find me a pretty awesome apartment (i can't wait to live on my own again), but she also helped me find a job as a graduate assistant. i had a phone interview in the morning, and was offered the job in the afternoon. and what makes this job so awesome? it's a 10 hour/week assistantship that pays for half of my tuition, plus $600 a month!! in va, i've been working 30 hours/week for $7 an hour. so i'll be making twice as much per hour. and even though i won't be working nearly as many hours, i'll only be making $200 less a month. but that's not counting tuition. with half my tuition paid, i'll be able to use some of my loans to get my credit card debt back down. plus, i don't think that i'll need to take nearly as many hours as i did in va...so that's more money i'll be saving. plus, next year i'll have in-state tuition, which will cut tuition in half again. so, this year i should be paying about 1/4th as much as in va...and by next year, it should be 1/8th. *two fingers on table* let's just hope my fellow students there aren't as big of idiots as the ones in va. more on that later.
